What historical event (or events, for us noncommittal) holds the most meaning for you?

I ask this because history has always been my favorite subject, and everyone can have a slightly (or vastly) different concept of an historical event since so much of it is interpretation. How did you first learn about this event, and how has your perception of it changed over the years?

Labour winning the General Election on 1st May 1997. After being out of power for 18 years, we finally got a chance to do some good. And we did!
