Intellectual Diversity in the Classroom
Although conservatives complain loudly and often about liberal bias in the mass media, the truth is that one is far more likely to read a conservative perspective in the New York Times than hear it from a college professor. At least the Times publishes an occasional conservative on its op-ed page. At many universities, just finding a Republican anywhere on the faculty is problematic.
Where has all the Girl Power gone?
Since at least the Andrews Sisters in the '40s, girl groups have been one of pop music's most formidable forces, talent- and sales-wise. From the Crystals to Labelle to the Bangles to Salt-n-Pepa to Babes in Toyland, they've also been a petri dish for feminism. In between odes to the rush of crushes, they've crafted anthems for Cherry Bombs and Independent Women, and provided working demonstrations of female bonding — aka, "girl power."
And in 2004, they're an endangered species. A survey of the MTV hopefuls in October revealed that these women in their teens and 20s could think of only one girl-group role model: Destiny's Child

But in Mexico, things haven't exactly worked that way. Forty years after Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique" sparked a massive consciousness-raising movement among American women and helped launch a publishing sub-industry, many Mexican women are awaiting their feminist ur text.
